Home Run

Over-sized, maxi-length and uber-comfy are three essential buzz words for your winter wardrobe right now.

After my failed hunt for the perfect maxi length trench in new york (ahh did it ever occur to me that winter outerwear would be nowhere to be found in the big apple going into spring/summer?) I found my tailored piece of fabric heaven from the old faithful - the Cameo Collective Wicked Games Trench.

This coat adds some serious elegance to an evening outfit as well as looking effortlessly chic with some flats for a casual day look. As for the bottoms, don't let the name of the jeans scare you, this pair of MOM jeans from Topshop are my perfect idea of classic american street denim. They are just baggy enough to get away with without looking like I'm rocking my brother's pair from the 90's (now there's an idea...) but still cropped, high-waisted and contemporary to work into an easy day to night look.

And now for the accessories. Fresh out of NY, how can I not rock this bad boy yankees cap from New Era? Down south we have the Tyga Lizard skaters from Topshop (slipping these babies on every chance I get) and the super sexy lace up pumps from NineWest that I scored for $50 at the NineWest outlet in woodbury - yeww! The little sweetheart I'm rocking over my shoulder was one of many Tory Burch pieces I could not resist (also bought for a non-scary price tag at Woodbury).

I have sooo much more swoon-worthy denim and oversized outerwear as well as some super fun accessories that I am going to drip feed over the coming weeks (mwhaha). Stay warm, stay comfy and stay trending (trust me the co-existence of the three this season is possible)! xx

Empire State of Mind

                                                                       Uh-mazing.

That's the neatest and most compact summary of my new york vacay I can muster. Inspiring is an understatement. Blazing big city lights, evocative street art, bold and edgy streetstyle and the most mixed society I've come across. It is literally as if you're seeing the whole world, in one place, at once. I don't know if it was the holiday buzz or spring fever, but the city was alive and seemed to welcome all with open arms.

Now to the specifics.
  • I went a little mental at the two big Ts (Tory Burch and Topshop), swooned over the feminine details at Alice & Olivia, obsessed over pieces at Acme and tired the fitting room staff out at urban outfitters.
  • The shopping highlight was definitely finding my dream ballet lace ups that I've been crushing on since the fabulous Elle Ferguson featured them all over her insta account - Topshop did a pretty sweet copy (see images 7-9 below) of the original Louboutins which was plenty good for moi, and they are SUPER comfy.
  • Denim was another highlight in the big city, the high waisted "mom" style and baggy boyfriend types were getting plenty airtime. I think I finished at a sensible 4 pairs between Topshop and Free People, not to mention the buttoned denim skirt I also snapped up from Topshop.
  • You've been warned, there will be a motherload of Topshop appearances on upcoming blog posts, with Moss on the design panel and Cara infront of the lens, Topshop is kind of getting it right 98% of the time.

The streets of manhattan are definitely a runway in their own right, kicks and baseball caps seem to do most of the talking for the gents and many New York women fell into categories of "Tomboy" "Boho" and "GossipGirl" and sometimes a hybrid of the three. The vintage hipster glam over the bridge in Williamsburg was pretty potent and yes beards are everywhere my friends, facial hair fashion has officially globalised.
Now the only bad news is that despite foregoing 2-3kg of my baggage allowance for my camera gear, I was about as active behind the Nikon lens as I have been on this blog! So I'm afraid I will have to leave you with what is a very unorganised montage of smartphone snaps of NY moments and some beautiful photos taken by my very talented friend Petra, and yes, I holidayed with some serious babes - exhibits A, B and C below ;).

AMERICAN SWEETHEART

Oh the neglect! I can't believe we're already in May, these past weeks have been a whirlwind of office madness, marathon family affairs and an over-commitment to social events that has devoured any residue of me-time. Hence the MIA honeys. In the midst of the chaos I have managed to snatch up a few little luxuries like these amazing personalised leather goods from the talented pair at  thedailyedited (leather pouch) and some sweet stack rings to keep my hand game strong from Lovisa. Trying my very best to save those pennies for my upcoming NYC trip. This outfit is made up of simple staple pieces -  the high waisted khaki slacks are vintage Mango, sleeveless high collar shirt with pleat detail from CUE underneath and the old faithful Romwe knit to add some layer on top. Keeping the details fresh and the silhouette classic.

Hit list for NYC:
The perfect maxi length coat with lavish lapels
lace up ballet flats
more denim

Pretty sensible right? Let's check back after touch down in manhattan ;) ...

All the other kids

Boyish kicks down south, flirty fringes on neck details and man tailored outerwear - hello Sydney winter!

I am joined at the neck with my fringey textured snood from Sportsgirl, leaving it hanging like a long knit necklace over sleeveless pieces or python coiled around my shoulders as the evenings get chillier. I've also got my eye on about 4 different pairs of sneakers around town - kicks just keep getting fresher and that hole in my wallet keeps burning larger - gahh! Looks like great minds are still thinking alike, check out what Miss Kate was donning a few days ago - channelling indeed mama.
